About Us

Waveney Valley Canoe Club was founded over 60 years ago. The club is affiliated to British Canoeing, the national governing body for paddlesports with a Clubmark accreditation.

We are fortunate to be located on a beautiful stretch of the River Waveney on the Norfolk/Suffolk border. The clubhouse is within the Riverside Centre, Bungay Staithe (very near to Bungay town centre) giving easy access to the river both up and downstream.

The well-stocked boat shed provides a variety of modern canoes, kayaks, SUPs and paddles and safety equipment available to all members, allowing our members to participate without the need to invest in equipment.

Developing your skills

Our activities are firmly based on British Canoeing accredited skills courses provided by club coaches, who are highly qualified volunteers.

Individual courses are tailored to junior or adult paddlers and build skills from beginner to advanced level.  Not only do these teach paddling skills, they also develop skills around safety and rescue while enjoying the natural environment and having a sociable time.

If members are interesting in developing coaching skills, they are encouraged and supported in pursuing this. We see this as important for both our club’s future and for the sport to continue thriving.
